Diane Taylor

I am an abstract contemporary artist working in oils and acrylic living in Bath.

Whilst I make no attempt to portray actual scenes or places in my work, I strive to create individual pieces that evoke real thought and a depth of emotion.

Each of my large colour panels are created using several layers of paint as I give them depth and strive to capture a life within them. They are finished only when I feel they are independent of me.

For the most part I am self taught and have studied art over many years, also studying sculpture at Bath College. My inspiration comes from nature and my love of the old masters and the richness of colour they achieved.

I come from an artistic family, art is in my DNA. George Rowe (1796-1864), my great, great grandfather, was one of the most prolific topographical print makers of the first half of the 19th century and as one of Australia's finest and best-regarded goldfields artists, has works represented in several of the country's leading art galleries. He won a gold medal at the 1862 London International Exhibition with his panoramic canvases.

Most importantly, I do this for the love of painting. The calm and joy it brings to me, that sense of creating something that evokes emotion and discussion with family, friends and people who love art too.
